Profile
The Bonn Center for Mathematical Life Sciences (BCML) is an interdisciplinary institution that aligns with the University of Bonn’s academic vision, reflecting the university’s broad range of disciplines. It is thematically connected to Transdisciplinary Research Areas (TRAs), in particular the TRA Modelling and the TRA Life and Health, and the Excellencer Clusters Hausdorff Center for Mathematics and ImmunoSensation. This provides a platform for innovation in research and teaching.
The BCML plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's excellence structures, strengthening its research portfolio, and fostering collaboration both within the university and with external institutions. Through its interdisciplinary focus, the center aims to drive new avenues of research that integrate mathematical and life sciences methodologies to address complex challenges in biology, medicine, and public health.
The members of the BCML are part of the Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Institute of Experimental Oncology, and the Life and Medical Science Institute, and are working at the intersection of mathematics and life sciences.
Tasks
The BCML's mission is to conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface of mathematics and the life sciences. The center focuses on the development and application of mathematical models to analyze complex data from biological and biomedical research, medicine, and epidemiology. By leveraging these methods, the BCML aims to enhance our understanding of biological processes and improve diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic strategies.
The center fosters collaboration and facilitates exchanges between researchers in mathematics and life sciences. This interdisciplinary approach promotes innovative solutions to pressing challenges in the life sciences.
The center is dedicated to scientific talent development. It actively supports young researchers through mentorship, student supervision, and participation in doctoral and training programs, helping to build the next generation of leaders in mathematical life sciences
Organization of the Center
The center’s organs include the Center Council and the Executive Board, which consists of a spokesperson and additional members from faculty and researchers. The Executive Board leads the center and is supported by the center's management team.

Center Council
The Center Council consist of all members and associated members of the BCML. You can find out more about our members here.
